Cut list 01 · What we make

Four kinds of work.
All of it solid.

We make pieces that are drawn for one room and built once. Every part is cut in our workshop and fitted by our own team.

Materials and finishes

Know how it ages
before you choose.

Walnut gets lighter. Oak gets warmer. Steel wears bright where hands go. We tell you before you sign, and we show you on the Materials sheet.

Compare species and finishes

Have drawings? Send them.
No drawings? We draw it.

Tell us the piece, a rough size and when you need it. We reply with questions, a first sketch or a price range, and a date for a site visit.

Six materials we work with most, and an honest note on how each one changes. Pick a species, then drag the slider to see roughly how it moves over ten years indoors.

Finish schedule

Five finishes,
and what each costs you later.

The finish decides how a piece looks after a dropped glass, a wet bag or a hot pan. We pick it with you for the way the piece will be used.

before you decide?

We post sample boards in the species and finish you are considering, cut from the stock we would use.

Who does what

The people who build it
are the people who fit it.

Lintel & Kerf is five makers, one finisher, one person in the drawing office and one who runs projects and the site. Nothing is sent out to another workshop. If you visit, the person who answers your question about a joint is the person who cut it.

We take on a small number of commissions at a time so each one has a maker who stays with it from the first board to the last screw on site.

For architects, designers and contractors

What you receive,
and when.

You should never have to chase a joiner. This is what lands on your desk at each step.

  2. 02Shop drawings

  6. 06Aftercare

A care sheet for the finish and a visit at twelve months to check, adjust and re-oil.

Hand planes and chisels hung in their places on the workshop wall.

Things we will not do

Plain about
our limits.

  • No veneer sold as solid. If a panel is veneered, the drawing says so, and we tell you why.
  • No flat-pack. Pieces arrive assembled or in the sections shown on the drawing.
  • No silent swaps. If a species or fitting changes, you approve it in writing first.
  • No promises timber cannot keep. If solid wood is wrong for a spot, like a wet wall, we say so.

Site · floors protected, a level on every fixing

Come and see
the bench.

Architects and clients are welcome in the workshop by appointment. Bring the drawing; we will have the timber out.
